Genesis FF7 remake

Im not asking if Genesis is going to be in the Final Fantasy remake. a proper sequel like Dirge of Cerebus and Advent Children. Genesis cant hide forever you know There shouldn't be one. With the exception of Advent Children confirming that everyone survived Meteorfall, everything since the original game has been weak at best. Essentially, in Crisis Core, Genesis provokes Sephiroth into learning the truth about himself. I.e. Genesis is partly responsible for the burning of Nibleheim; for Zack and Cloud to be experimented on by Shinra etc. However, throughout FF7, Genesis is essentially asleep somewhere. Final Fantasy 7 Remake isn’t just a straight retelling of the original game’s story. Instead, it turns the first few hours of that tale into a massive JRPG in its own right, expanding on ideas ... Genesis's original concept artwork. Genesis's appearance is based on Gackt, a Japanese singer-songwriter and actor.Gackt wrote and performed the theme song of Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII, 'Redemption', and wears the Genesis costume in the music video, though with a different hairstyle.Beyond this, Genesis's design bears similarities to Sephiroth, including the long coat, crossed ... Genesis is one of the most interesting characters introduced in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, and he deserves a new lease on life in the Remake. What is the FF7 Remake Part 2 story?. FF7 Remake's credits roll when the party leaves Midgar. In the original title, this was when Final Fantasy VII transitioned to an open-world, globe-trotting ... That's the big question, and we still don't know the answer. It could be some element that'll appear in future FF7 installments, like time travel--after all, Remake is taking a similar tack to ...

Remake Ending Clarification

2020.09.12 17:35 bogsphil Remake Ending Clarification

I need some clarification on certain scenes after Sephiroth tells Cloud he has 7 seconds to do something. Be warned that I don't have a comprehensive knowledge of FF7, but I am aware of some VERY general beats to the story, along with the twists and such. Also, I guess I'm familiar with Dirge of Cerberus, god help me.
Based on a listed timeline on a wiki, Zack's Final Stand happens in late September, while the start of FF7 proper happens in December. While the Remake does show a Zack who actually survived his supposed Final Stand, it doesn't seem clear to me if that meant it was in a different timeline or on the same timeline. Right now, I'm leaning towards SAME, but then some doubts form.
Initially, I thought the entirety of Midgar had traveled 2 months to the past since, after the blast that knocked Zack down, the light particles that he sees were also present in the Remake's current spot in time (Marle in Sector 7 Slums, The Leaf House with a recovering Biggs) but then that didn't seem to make sense as the party isn't shown encountering those same particles. Barring Midgar time-traveling, it would then somehow suggest that for 2 months, Zack has not made his presence and survival known after his Final Stand.
With all that listed, I need something about the end clarified. When the party starts to leave and we get that scene of Zack carrying Cloud while saying "We're almost there," was that PRIOR to his Final Stand or AFTER? I only ask coz while he started to go to where Cloud was before he got knocked down by the blast, (to me) it didn't show him actually getting to Cloud and picking him up (makes me question if Cloud disappeared during the fight, unless I missed him). If it was PRIOR, then I guess I don't have an issue. If it was AFTER, then it sorta puts to question about why Cloud is still experiencing those weird memory/personality/psyche issues that stemmed from Zack dying in the first place, among other factors (mako poisoning, etc.). Would it mean that Cloud at the end of the Remake has resolved this issue way earlier than the original timeline?
Aside from that, would Zack's survival also mean new (or rather, old) threats coming to the Remake's story, like Genesis (Dirge of Cerberus kinda shows him in the end even when he was beaten in Crisis Core, but even I don't think they'll want to use any plot element from Dirge) and that trio from Advent Children showing up much earlier (the Whisper Trio boss fight was apparently them from the future)?

2020.06.29 15:29 GhostIsItsownGenre [OG+REMAKE SPOILERS] Midgar of the promised land (idea.)

A lot of spoilers.
Let's begin from the end. We beat Sephiroth, that didn't stop Meteor. Holy intervened but didn't make it in time. Midgar was destroyed. Life stream saves the planet from complete catastrophe. Marlene stands up and says "the flower girl?" This already hints Aerith's omnipotence with the lifestream. Cloud mentions "I think I am beginning to understand. An answer from the planet, the promised land. I think I can meet her... there." Did he have a vision? We are confused and emotional about the visions he's been having in the remake, this may not be anything new conceptually. And total fan service.
How does SE plan to implement this meeting? Well he does meet her, at Midgar. The OG ends with Nanaki seemingly decades later overlooking a foliage overgrown Midgar. In the remake we get a vision of Nanaki running. Everyone asks, "what was that?" "What will happen tomorrow if we fail here." This is already pointing me towards saving Midgar.
WE ALL LOVE MIDGAR! Right!? Like yeah we are playing as Avalanche destroying Shinra's planet sucking metropolis. I mean how do we expect to destroy the reactors without collateral damage and harming the livelihoods of it's innocent citizens? Square knows we love this game and that we love Midgar.
Sephiroth has been on the search for the truth of his origins since CC. He infiltrates Shinra HQ to find Jenova. Coincidentally enough Cloud working with Avalanche runs into him at the perfect time with a completely different agenda. He believed Sephiroth was dead, well he is. He is just controlling people infected with Jenova cells from his cryo in the crater.
We had an interesting tug and pull between Sephiroth and the whispers or "plot ghosts" as we progressed through the remake. I believe this addition here is to kinda explain how everything lined up perfectly for them to meet. The plate had to fall, the whispers fought us and held us back to ensure it, but then they saved us later. Aerith willingly turned herself in to Shinra to save Marlene. But also to get Cloud there to face Sephiroth. Aerith worked with the whispers to make this happen. For example we knew Aerith saved Marlene but we got an amazing perspective of depth how it happened in the remake. I find this implementation with the whispers similar.
Sephiroth wanted Cloud to become stronger. He burned Nibelheim to a crisp because they were harboring Jenova and he went kinda nuts. He tells Cloud in the remake that his suffering will make him stronger. Cloud has Jenova's biological data as well. People have been theorizing that Sephiroth messing with Cloud in the remake is to slow him down. I think it is to intensify his suffering. Cloud has the hallucination of Nibelheim burning in the remake. He's been suffering since Nibelheim and way past Aerith's death into Advent Children where he starts to lose his confidence. He couldn't save her and all he wanted was to be forgiven. Sephiroth asks him at the end of AC, where did you find this strength? His suffering in the long run did make him stronger. Cloud refused to tell him.
Sephiroth and Aerith both have premonition. In chapter 12 Wedge asks her if she has ever felt a feeling like there is an impending doom. She says yes she has, she has foreseen her destiny. I haven't fully wrapped my head around the ideas of Sephiroth time traveling. Correct me if I am wrong, but couldn't Sephiroth already have the wing? Like Angeal and Genesis had in CC? Unless he got it in between CC and FF7. We just didn't see it until the end of OG, doesn't mean he didn't have it. Anyway.
When we get to Shinra HQ and save Aerith. She is very vague about the explanation that Cloud wants. I am an Ancient, that's about it. Tifa hints in the sewers about Aerith hiding something. She totally is. Aerith says yeah at first Shinra was the enemy but we have a greater threat. A real threat to the planet. When she said that I started to think was Shinra really a threat to the planet with their Mako reactors?
Aerith loves Midgar. She says "Everyone seems to hate the slums, but I don't" The very end of the remake she says, "I miss it, the steel sky." We see her sitting in front of a pipe leaking Mako in the beginning. She is deeply attuned to both Midgar and the Life Stream.
Marlene at the end of remake waters the plant, the water drops. She turns and says daddy? In AC during the healing, she looks up at the water and notices Aerith. No doubt in my mind that Marlene isn't just an ancient, but the remaining Ancient. Perhaps what Aerith is hiding is maybe she isn't the Ancient. She has a limit called Planet's Protection. What was the Planet's Protection? Not holy, it was the Life Stream. Aerith is the Life Stream. Marlene notices it. In the purest physical manifestation of it. Like a female Jesus kinda. She is conscious in the Life Stream after death like yoda. Did she cast holy after she died? Did she cure ego stigma infection in the Life Stream?
Aerith was saving Marlene from Shinra. Turned herself in because they think she's the Ancient. Perhaps her non-chalant response "Nope" to her being able to help Shinra is a hint. But perhaps it's right under our noses and Shinras? Maybe she can't lead them to the promised land, because how do you lead someone out of their avarice and greed?
If Shinra doesn't even come close to a threat compared to Sephiroth then maybe Mako can be used as an unlimited source. It has improved the live's of the people. Barrett's sigh shows a little conflict. It showed in the visual experience Midgar being built in the barren environment. The Life Stream can't be depleted. Rather than prosperity Shinra used it for fortune and control. The whispers intervened at the sector 7 slums to make sure that Cloud was going to reactor 5.
President Shinra had to be stopped. His arrogance and greed led them astray. The game is starting to make us feel bad about blowing up the reactors with Jessie's guilt that Cloud could have justified when she died. Leads to even more desire to dethrone President.
Aerith is guarding the only place where flowers can grow. Until the time is right. The same place that became the holy ground that cured geo stigma. Perhaps Midgar was built onto of it to protect it, the city just ended up in the wrong hands. Aerith is the Planets birth to balance out Sephiroth's power.
Sephiroth manages to kill her. This could be all part of his plan. If she dies, it would be easier for him and Meteor. He damn near succeeded too. The blood of the ancients flows through him. He's not only after Jenova but Aerith too, all the while completely fucking with Cloud.
Both Aerith and Sephiroth were needed to open Destiny's Crossroad. The whispers and Sephiroth are integrated somehow, even though Aerith says he can't hear them. Aerith hesitates going in there, she would have to defeat the whispers in order to alter time to stop Sephiroth and the Meteor from even happening. In order to protect Midgar. She may be the purest being of the Life Stream but she is still a person with dreams. A sassy mouth and the kindest most loving heart.
We see Zack notice a bright light explosion and a bunch of majestic flickering aesthetic over Midgar. The slums although destroyed. Notices it too. Something changed, and so did Stamp on the bag. And now 7 seconds until the end, may be enough time for you, perhaps.
This can seem like a sequel idea. But it can just be an addition that we can pretend has already been there. The whispers only revealed now have always been involved to make sure Cloud meets Aerith and Reunites with Sephiroth. They already knew in the story before the remake was made what would happen. We just experienced destiny first in the OG and in those 7 seconds if Aerith dies, Meteor hits, destiny succeeds we get OG but now "bad ending." The remake is damn near spot on sticking to the original game, except this confusing shit. Or Aerith lives and saves Midgar which is why she agreed to open the portal to Destiny's Xroad.
If Aerith and Zack don't die then, do they have to remake Advent Children as well?

2020.06.12 00:09 ZekromThankU [OG+REMAKE SPOILERS] I’m a new fan who just finished Remake, and I just wanted to say I’m in love with it [LONG]

As the title says. I’m just overflowing with love right now. For Remake only, since I haven’t played the OG to find out the rest of the story and I don’t plan to. Though I have come across a ton of assorted spoilers after finishing the game and am fine with that.
BASICS: I was a little girl when the original game came out, 5 or 6 years old. I have vague memories of hanging around my older brother as he played - I remember the colorful roads in the chocobo races and thinking Red XIII was cool. I’ve also come across occasional fanart/ posts of FF7 in the last ~15 years, so I knew what some characters looked like and a few big plot elements. I’d say I came into Remake 85 - 90% blind.
OBSESSION START: I started by watching an LP of the game. I’ve known for years it was a big popular title and thought I’d use the Remake to finally learn what the fuss was about. By the tome you meet Aerith I could no longer stand the LP-er talking and not slowly admiring the environments as I would have done. So I slammed my laptop shut and bought the game at Target 1 hour later. It was SUCH an interesting world. More sci-fi than fantasy. Incredibly well voiced English script that made me adore every character. I got sucked in HARD.
OBSESSION GROWS, I CANNOT SHUT UP: I’m working from home right now and there were definitely a few days where I would “work” by having my work laptop on the couch next to me to answer incoming emails but do nothing else. I would have my eyes glued to the slums, or a mako reactor, or Cloud Strife’s goddamn beautiful face. I stayed up till 2 or 3am several times in a row playing the game and I NEVER do that. I’m not really a gamer, I buy 1-3 video games in a year, always single-player ones. Video games are not a social thing for me. With this one, I MADE it social by telling all my friends about it lmao. My brother, the OG fan his early 30s now, was only mildly interested in the Remake. He said he cared more about my thoughts on discovering it than playing it himself. I would text him every day about plot twists I found out or things that were fun, stuff that was news to me, but things he’s known for literally 20 years! I also am now forcing a friend of mine to watch all the cutscenes of the game. There’s a 15-hour vid on YT that shows all dialogue, starts and ends of all important battles, basically cuts out all grinding. She’s loving it. Her standout comment to me so far (we just got to Wall Market) is: “I just love Cloud’s Fuck-The-Police attitude.” Though her favorite character is Barret.
NEWBIE’S TAKE: This story is so weird and unique and mysterious. It feels like the plot of some hot new Netflix or HBO show that's never been done before. Every minute I was wondering where the next adventure would take us and what we’d find out about Cloud, who is obviously repressing something and not talking about it, and the intentions of Sephiroth, who is oppressively terrifying. Midgar is so next-level future: advanced and widespread and awful and dirty. The overpowering presence of Shinra makes me wonder what life is like outside of this city, in the world at large. The characters are so well-realized, well-animated, well-voiced, I never wanted to leave them. Aerith is so charming I can’t stand it. I want to protect Tifa forever. Cloud is my fave, fake tough guy, actual good guy, legitimately awkward guy. I would hang on every word or action Red XIII said or did because he’s the coolest thing since sliced bread. I want Barret to be my dad and EKG Cannon my problems away for me. I want to take that feeling of fascination and eagerness I felt while exploring the Shinra Building and bottle it. I enjoyed every minute.
THE ENDING: I’ve seen a lot of online posts to the tune of “Newbies are gonna be SO CONFUSED, this is not an entry point for new fans” and wow, those posts annoy me. Can OG fans stop putting words in my mouth and “telling” me I didn’t enjoy the game the right way? I don’t understand everything, true, but it’s Part 1 in a series, I didn’t expect to. Plus I think a lot of hints and inferences were well placed and not ~sOOo CoNfusInG~ in the first place. I understood that Zack is the long-gone boyfriend Aerith spoke of and obviously Cloud and him were once friends. (I also think it's funny that there's a character in a Japanese game, in an anime aesthetic, named...Zack. That name is so basic American to me) I inferred from Red XIII that the "destiny" the whispers want to protect has to be the original game based on the intrusiveness of the ghosts, and Sephiroth, the big villain, luring you to defeat the Whispers...so he’s no longer destined to lose just because he’s the villain. I understand this means Part 2 may not follow the original game exactly. Since I don’t have precious memories of the original game to preserve in my heart, I don’t mind. This game has built up such a huge amount of credit and respect in me that I trust wherever they are going to take this. When I see people balking at how Nomura ruined their precious game I roll my eyes. Even if folks don’t like the ending, it’s ludicrous to think that makes the other 95% of the game trash by association.
POST-GAME DEPRESSION: I have it now. I haven’t had that feeling in years. (I think for The Last Guardian?) I dealt with it by exploring the fandom, theories, fanworks, reviews and news for Part 2, just anything. It made me come across some spoilers. Some I vaguely recalled reading in passing years ago, some totally new to me. I know who Vincent is and some bits about Cid and Yuffie. I know how Sephiroth went nuts in Nibelheim after learning his Jenova origins, and he’s waiting for Cloud to give him the Black materia, though I don’t know why or what it does. know there’s a town called Junon and one called Fort Condor. I know you can take someone on a date at a casino place called the Gold Saucer where you race chocobos, which has to be the place kindergarten!me saw in my memories. Seems like a place Roche would have fun in and might show up at. I know the gist of who Genesis and Angeal from the prequel are, too (no one seems to like them?)
Anyway.
I just adored this game. I didn’t expect to fall in love with it this intensely. But now I have and I have to wait out the next 2, 3, 4, who knows how many years to get more of this. I am not that interested in playing OG because I don’t care for old polygon graphics or turn-based combat. And I don’t want to fill the holes in my story knowledge the PS1 polygon way, when I could see it the Remake way, where it’s filled to the brim with polish, voicework, cinematography, and just tons of effort and beauty. I doubt I’ll manage to avoid ALL spoilers till Part 2 comes out (I’ve already purposefully sought out...a lot) but hopefully I can preserve a little of my ignorance and be surprised at SOME things. It seems that even if I knew the story front to back, Remake will still invent things to surprise even knowledgeable OG players, such as Jessie’s mission, the Shinra museum and “movie”, Roche, etc. I really can’t wait to see it.
TL;DR, Hello, OG fans, I love your game!

2020.06.06 17:00 Kira_Uchiha Which game(s) or character(s) left the biggest emotional scar for you?

Mine is Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7. I played the original Final Fantasy 7 around 12 years ago, really enjoyed it, and Aerith's death made me sad for a whole week. Then 2 years after I got a PSP and bough Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 and oh boy did this game break me. I knew that it was about a minor character from the OG FF7, Cloud's mentor who died, so I already knew how the game would end and felt like I wouldn't get too invested into Zack seeing that he dies at the end.
Oh boy was I wrong.
Zack was such an enjoyable character to play as, he wasn't super deep and complex like Cloud was, Zack was actually more on the simpler side, but was by no means a one dimensional character or one that lacked depth. He was charming, bright and friendly, but they didn't overdo these traits to the point of him being obnoxious and just an overly positive character. The more I played it, the more I grew attached to Zack, and I nearly forgot that he was supposed to die at the end. His relationship and chemistry with Aerith was so goddamn adorable and well written, I love them together, so much so that in the Remake I couldn't pair Cloud with Aerith at all, it just felt wrong (and I always saw Cloud being with Tifa tbh). When the end drew closer, I felt a sense of dread remembering that he was supposed to die. During his last stand I desperately fought to keep him alive, once I even tried using cheats to see if this would work, but nope, he was destined to die. It's one of the few times I actually ugly cried in my life, seeing his exhaustion after being experimented on, carrying Cloud around, fighting Genesis and fighting a whole platoon of SOLDIERs... and the way they incorporated the gameplay during his final stand with his memory slowly fading away but holding on to Aerith, yeah that fucking broke me. Even today this ending makes me cry, feels like I never really "healed" from that, it still is an emotional sore point. It feels like I actually lost a best friend and/or brother. And I know it's just fiction, but Zack's story just struck me so hard in the feels, a tragic and forgotten hero. After playing CC, he became my favorite Final Fantasy character of all time by far.
(FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE SPOILERS) When I played the Remake where he supposedly survived his last stand, and "crossed path" with Aerith at the end with Hollow playing in the background, I cried so fucking hard, tears of sadness and of joy. I never actually realized how much I wanted Zack back before playing the Remake. I never realized how much I wanted him to be happy with Aerith. It's just fiction goddammit, but I just want this so bad.

Do you have a game/character that struck you as hard?

2020.05.19 14:55 Teehokan Let's talk about that certain added part of Sephiroth's visual design.

The one wing. Anyone else think it's really dumb? I know he's had it since Kingdom Hearts but I've never liked it. From what I can recall it seems to have just been shoehorned into the canon with no explanation (I'm sure it's just a vague Jenova-ey Wenova-ey hand-wave since Genesis has one too) just to reference the last bossfight from the original game. Cloud now freaks out when he sees black feathers, meaning Sephiroth now probably whipped out his wing at some point during the Nibelheim incident. It also lets him fly unnaturally well for only having one wing.
I just think it's this perfect encapsulation of taking a good design too far. FF7 was a game made before Nomura's character designs went out of control. Why don't we wrap the buster sword in bandages while we're at it?
EDIT: Arguments that don't work for me:
"He's always had it": Safer-Sephiroth is a completely different design which had way more than one wing, and even the one above his waist was in place of an arm, not on his back, and it was so hard and sharp he could slash you with it.
"His song is called One-Winged Angel": Then let's make sure Squall is a literal lion in the FF8 remake.
"It was first in Crisis Core, not in Kingdom Hearts": Crisis Core came out 5 years after Kingdom Hearts.
"It represents XYZ": Is there anything about Sephiroth in the original game we needed a big fat garish symbol on his back in order to understand?
"You just don't like wings": Yep, that's why I'm talking only about this design and not his two final boss forms.
"People have given you reasons and you're rejecting them so obviously you don't actually want to be convinced": I'm not obligated to like a reason just because it's a reason, this is just a courtesy so people can try a new one and so I don't have to repeat myself.
"There are lots of evidence of this being typical to the series but I don't want to actually discuss my case, I'd rather just repeatedly say 'say you don't like it and move on' while all the while being able to say 'I disagree' and move on": Well now that's just unproductive.

2020.05.09 19:17 Devouee Predicting the events of future games based on LOVELESS (Theory)

Hello everybody! Today's theory is about LOVELESS, the epic from CC anyways, this is the result is three days of doing nothing but interpreting the entirety of LOVELESS w/ a friend. By the time we reached Act V, it was 2AM the other night and I broke down
Here's the summary of what we found: every act of LOVELESS depicts the events of FF7R, the events before it, and potentially everything that comes after
For this post, I've decided to focus on the Prologue, Act I, and Act II. (partially because it's so fucking long) so if you're interested to read all to Act V (it's 13 pages be warned), here's a link to our entire interpretation.
Needless to say, spoilers for everything including FF7, FF7R, and the compilations. Everything. But ah, I blocked a couple of lines just in case. This is your last chance to step away though
You still with me? Then, here we go!
Prologue
1 When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end
2 The goddess descends from the sky
3 Wings of light and dark spread afar
4 She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting
[1] Two important phrases here: "war of the beasts" and "world's end." The world “beast” simply means something that isn’t human, and whatever this "beast" was brought about and/or signified the "world's end." What very specific instance in the entirety of FF7 refers to "world's end"? That's right, it's Meteor. And what "beasts" were present during the appearance of Meteor? WEAPONS. This line talks about the calling of Meteor, and the war with the WEAPONS that were awakened in Disc 3.
[2] The goddess is a benevolent entity. She's been called a lot of things: the Planet, the Lifestream, Minerva, etc. same principle. This line talks about Her coming... like, say, the coming of Holy?
[3] It’s referring to this exact scene when Meteor was about to destroy the Planet, only for the Lifestream/Holy to break its impact. It shows streams, almost like wings, of light and darkness spreading across the Planet
[4] Okay, here we go. The gift of the goddess. What is this thing that everyone (read: Genesis) has been searching for so long? I believe the gift of the goddess is in fact death. And it makes perfect sense here, given the context (Holy) and how it's phrased.
"She guides us to bliss": The Planet/Lifestream/Minerva guides "us" to BLISS. BLISS! The highest form of happiness, the ultimate peace. Next, this "gift" is something that's EVERLASTING when nothing in this world is meant to last forever. That is, except death. This line talks about Holy killing all of humanity. I have a couple of evidences to support this claim.
First, here’s an excerpt from the last scene of FF7, just before the Planet unleashes Holy:
2:17
Cloud: I think I’m beginning to understand…
Tifa: What?
Cloud: An answer from the Planet… the Promised Land. I think I can meet her there.
Tifa: [accepting face] Yeah, let’s go meet her.
There is only one "her" that the party wants to meet—and that’s Aerith. Aerith is dead To meet her in the "Promised Land" is to meet her in death
Additionally, here’s the video of FF7 Midgar 500 years later (the one with Red XIII running with his cubs). If there’s one thing we know about humans is that we multiply. However, this scene heavily suggests that humans are gone. EGM’s interview with Kitase back in 2005 heavily supports this.
Kitase: In a way, I consider that epilogue to be the true happy ending of FF7. Well, it’s a happy ending even though all the human beings are destroyed. [Laughs]
Holy kills everyone in the end of FF7. Isn't that great? Doesn't that describe this line perfectly?
In conclusion, LOVELESS Prologue depicts the ending of FF7, from Meteor to Epilogue.
It's also very interesting that FF7 is considered the "Prologue." An introduction. Not the actual story. very VERY curious especially with them releasing FF7R—which seems to be THE fate defining tale. which I'm going to dive into in a bit!
Act I
1 Infinite in mystery is the gift of the Goddess
2 We seek it thus, and take to the sky
3 Ripples form on the water's surface
4 The wandering soul knows no rest.
[1&2] Read: Death is a mystery, so we search for it and take to the sky. The word "sky" is only majorly mentioned twice throughout FF7R. This is when Aerith says "the never-ending sky" pre-Singularity and "I miss it, the steel sky" at the end of Chapter 18. Remember, the passage says so we search for death, and take to the sky So when one searches for death, they only need to look at the sky... the steel sky of Sector 7, perhaps? Or even the never-ending sky seen as a result of the plate falling? This line mostly likely talks about the tragedy of Sector 7.
[3] This line refers to the instance where the party kills the Harbinger of Fate, causing ripples in their wake. Note that water, throughout the poem (and especially if you're close reading Act IV later on), strongly refers to fate or destiny. Ripples are only formed on a water’s surface if something touches it, disturbs it.
Plus, the party literally causes water ripples in a scene directly after Cloud’s party defeats the Harbinger—the physical manifestation of fate. Art direction is so goddamn purposeful in this game and I just
[4] My friend and I debated about this part a bit, so I'm here with two interpretations. First, the "wandering soul" is the soul that literally wanders on this Planet: Sephiroth. He knows "no rest"/no end as per his quote in the Edge of Creation:
"That which lies ahead does not yet exist.
However, we will become a part of it one day.
But I will not end."
The second interpretation is how the "wandering soul" refers to Cloud & party. They "wander" because they have no definite destination in mind. After all, they're going to embark on an Unknown Journey (as the game tells you pre-Credits). Either way, the line refers to a final moment in FF7R.
In conclusion, LOVELESS Act I depicts the last few chapters of FF7R, from Sector 7 plate falling to the party leaving Midgar.
I swear to Shiva if you don't think that LOVELESS is god's prophecy at this point, then I don't know how else to convince you.
So with those two verses in mind that begs the question... what comes next? People are infinitely curious as to what the next game will bring. Perhaps Act II can shed some light?
(note that since there is no next game yet, so it's all speculation beyond this point. But we're pretty confident that both FF7 AND FF7R gave plenty of hints. you just need LOVELESS to contextualize them, that's all!)
Act II
1 There is no hate, only joy
2 For you are beloved by the goddess
3 Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds

4 Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul
5 Pride is lost
6 Wings stripped away, the end is nigh
[1&2] Be happy / For the Planet loves you. Well, Planet/Lifestream/Goddess. Same energy.
[3] Very straightforward! The Hero is Cloud, the protagonist of the story. Aerith is a healer. The latter also heals the world from Geostigma in AC. (Also the Planet/Lifestream/Goddess loves them very much :) the same entity that killed everyone in FF7 loves them very much)
[4] Hoo boy, here we go. So, my friend & I have two interpretations for this again. And like, we agree with them both HAHA the first is more obvious. Who else dreams of tomorrow/visions of the future but Cloud and Aerith? We see Cloud’s visions sporadically throughout Remake. Aerith obviously knows (Marlene's name before she's introduced, Cloud being a merc before he tells her, etc.).
On the other hand, those who have visions of the future could easily refer to Aerith and Sephiroth, too. Throughout FF7R, it's these two characters who definitively show that they're aware of future events. It's a bit of a lengthy discussion, but I find that this video explains it rather well!
[5] Here's your major plot point of the verse! You lose your pride when you feel confident in something, only to be proven wrong. In this case, that “something” could be changing fate. We speculate that the Cloud & Co. will try to think of DIFFERENT WAYS to defy fate throughout the game, only to realize at *this* specific point that they CAN'T. But why?
[6] Again, two interpretations, but it amounts to the same thing Their freedom taken away or Benevolence is taken away The former is more straightforward. The party's freedom to control their own fate is taken away because, well, someone else controls it. Who? Sephiroth. Here are a couple of evidences pointed out by numerous others:
The second interpretation... is actually more of a speculation on the potential story, but it does support the former and everything else.
Potentially, the next game could go like this: Cloud's party, fuelled by the fact that they destroyed fate, seeks to prevent FF7 from happening (it's a terrible end by the way—who wants to humanity to die?) They know of the events because Aerith knows of the events. She might not tell them outright, hell, the party might even learn it from Bugenhagen that the future is shit. Regardless, it's crap, they don't want it and they will look for a way to prevent it from happening.
Enter Sephiroth, who also wants to change destiny. (btw other theories will tell you that the destiny he wants to avoid is his defeat... however, later acts, specifically Act III, as well as FF7R will tell you that what he wants is to prevent his death). Imagine Sephiroth telling the party that he knows of a way to change fate but you have to help me. They won't do it immediately but since Sephiroth is their only lead, they say yes. He tells them of the Black Materia and how it's the key to saving the future. However, he can't get it by himself (Temple of the Ancients is at least a two-person puzzle and the one controlling the mechanism is going to get minimized, remember? It's why Cait Sith volunteers) so Sephiroth asks the party to do it for him.
Similar to FF7, the events of the Temple play out. We're not sure how accurate will it be (but I do want to see Cloud beat up Aerith in modern graphics hehe). Then they realize oh fuck we've been played by Sephiroth. That was no attempt to change fate at all. They've been manipulated. His benevolence is taken away in their eyes—leading them to the Temple was no act of kindness. Sephiroth gets the Black Materia, signaling the last line of Act II: the end is near.
Gods, I could go on until Act V (it's a real tragedy) but it'd be too long lmfao and we have no speculation for the actual story for the next Acts—just a rough translation of the verses which again, you can find here if you're interested to hear the rest! It won't tell you whether our resident peddler meets the same fate. However, we think that Cloud Strife will die at the end of the story It's a VERY lengthy discussion and I can probably discuss it in a different post on another day
Or you can just read LOVELESS Acts III and beyond, maybe
Maybe we'll even throw in our two cents as to why we think Advent Children is the eventual Bad End to the Remake series' ending which it totally IS btw and LOVELESS can prove it! LOVELESS can prove everything. It's literally the Planet's Bible.
So that's it from me today. Super long but I hope you enjoyed reading all that! Let us know what you think :)

2020.05.06 17:35 nzivvo Everything you need to know - The only theory post that explains WHY & HOW there's multiple timelines

Visual timeline

Before I get to the juicy detail, here's a visual timeline I knocked up to depict my theory of events. This may help put this into perspective:
https://i.imgur.com/xL5apBH.jpg
EDIT: Here's a pdf version which may be easier to read and zoom:
https://pdfhost.io/v/lwgaBtbD1_FF7_Timelines.pdf
I also forgot to add a colour key:
light teal = OG timeline & events
purple = Remake altered events caused by Seph
Blue = Remake altered events caused by Aeris
Green = Impact of destroying the Harbinger
Feel free to skip the Introduction and go straight down to the Juicy part

Introduction

I'll introduce my theory with a couple of points that this theory is based on:
I won't get into the evidence or detail of these two points. There have been reams of threads with overwhelming clues and evidence to both these points, most notably the huge change in personality of these 2 characters to the original.
A few additional assumptions/conclusions to introduce the theory:
Now with those points explained, we all know the events of the remake and how the whispers are forced to intervene numerous times etc. so I'll skip straight to the juicy part

The juicy part - Why & how there are now TWO timelines

  1. Aeris saves Wedge through her actions in S7.
  2. Wedge is likely key to the massively off-script Avalanche Siege on Shinra HQ.
  3. Knowing Rufus's ties with Avalanche, he was likely informed of the siege ahead of time. This explains the somewhat early Tseng phonecall. 'VP needs us'
  4. Wedge contacts the party after they rescue Aeris and tells them to head for the roof in contrast to the OG where they head for the ground floor and get captured by the Turks. They likely also do not get captured by the Turks due to point 3 above.
  5. This leads the party on a different route that a) brings Cloud to the Jenova chamber at the same time as Sephiroth, and b) brings them to the roof ahead of schedule (before the President is killed).
  6. Point 3 likely sets Rufus off down a path different enough to warrant him seeing the whispers by the time Cloud & Co escape.
  1. The 'mass-corrected' timeline is now re-instated, with five years of unknown Sephiroth changes already made. However:
    1. Only some changes (or even none) may be deliberate by Sephiroth in this timeline. I suspect the Shinra VR malfunction showing Meteor is due to Hojo having Jenova hooked up in his lab. As soon as Sephiroth sent back his future consciousness, these future memories would have been shared with Jenova. Shinra have potentially had access to this for a number of years - the butterfly effect of this could be the cause of the early Harbinger mass-correction.
    2. For example there appears to be some key changes made at Shinra resulting in a different Stamp design and also a completely different city design for Midgar (both seen in the Zack cutscene). The latter of which we know was a 7 year project ran by Reeve. I suspect this is likely due to the Shinra VR image of Meteor and Shinra deciding to dedicate budget to Palmer's space program, leaving Reeve a smaller budget to design and build Midgar, also influencing their war efforts with Wutai and in terms the design of Stamp.
    3. There's also a number of serious events in this timeframe that could be affected by Sephiroth's changes, most notably Zack defeating Genesis.
    4. I also note that Tseng and the Turks wanted and tried to save Zack. With him seemingly surviving in this timeline, this makes for an interesting story dynamic between Rufus, the Turks and Zack.
  2. The FF7R timeline continues but with all whisper involvement undone. Details we know of are:
    1. Sector 7 plate is saved
    2. Biggs survives (and potentially Jessie & Wedge too)
    3. President Shinra is still murdered
    4. Jenova is still taken from Hojo's lab - However the walkway is not destroyed by Sephiroth this time.

Final thoughts - My outstanding questions

Now for my final piece (which is a bit of a downer). I couldn't ignore Aeris's mention of 'point of no return' and 'we'll be changing ourselves' before they enter the Singularity.
I have a feeling that the Cloud & Party we played as in this first game have now ceased to exist, or at least not returned from the singularity. And that the party you see in the final cutscene is instead the party from the whisper-free FF7R timeline now embarking on hunting Sephiroth with no memory of the Harbinger event or whispers except maybe for Aeris, but even with her, by defeating the Harbinger her and Sephiroth's future consciousnesses are now a paradox, so could also have ceased to exist. This would align with Kitase's comments that the story will play out as per FF7. The surprises we will get may not be from a future Seph/Aeris involvement/curveballs, but purely as a knock on effect to the differences already present in this reality (S7 plate surviving etc, and all the other events that played out differently that we are not aware of).
The idea of your party not being the same as the one you'll now play on as also could indicate no data transfer and a complete reset for our characters.
That said, I have to say I prefer the sound of at least having Seph/Aeris still maintaining their future consciousnesses and scheming against eachother but via the same path as the OG.
TL:DR - Check out the image link above, then you'll probably want to read all the detail above...

2020.05.01 16:36 FaximusMachinimus FUN FACT: Götterdämmerung and the Opera

Fun fact about the accessory name.. and more.
I will be drawing some fascinating parallels to an opera, along with Norse/Germanic mythology in the FF7 universe and how it has heavy implications on plot and future narrative devices. ***This is not a theory\***
---
[You've entered Level 7: God Brain]
---
While we know that FF7 is chock full of Norse references: Midgar (Midgard, the place where "man" resides), Midgar Zolom (mistranslation of Midgarsormr, the great serpent), Odin (Norse God), Ragnarök, etc. it is the Germanic Götterdämmerung accessory item from the Remake that stands out as a key device in understanding fate in the FF7 universe. It's part of an opera!
In German composer Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, (The Ring of the Nibelung) Götterdämmerung is the last drama of a 4-part opera. Götterdämmerung translates to "Twilight of the Gods". (Side note: also in this opera are a dwarven race called "Nibelung" who live in Nibelheim. More on that later.)
The prologue of the Götterdämmerung drama begins when the three Norns are weaving the rope of Destiny. (Whispers of Fate: Rubrum, Viridi, Croceo anyone?) They sing of the past and the present, and of the future when Odin will set fire to Valhalla to signal the end of the gods. Suddenly, the rope of Destiny breaks. Lamenting, the Norns disappear. (End of Remake)
In Old Norse, "Twilight of the Gods" translates to Ragnarøkkr. We can recognize the obvious connection to Ragnarök; we think of Cloud's sword. By the way, how do we obtain Götterdämmerung and Ragnarök in the remake and the OG? Pride and Joy/Proud Clod, same assembly line.
Now, are you ready for this?
Ragnarök translates directly to Fate of the Gods. FATE.
Guess how the Norse depicted Ragnarök? The world is to be consumed by flame during a great battle, flooded in water, and ultimately restored. That is their fate.
Guess what happens at the end of FF7? Meteor after fighting Sephiroth. (flame) Lifestream. (water) Gaia is restored. That is, or was, fate. (?)
If you hadn't obtained Cloud's Ultima Weapon, you would likely be using his Ragnarok weapon for the final battle. You obtain it during a "great final battle" in Midgar with Shinra, the "so-called gods" of this planet. If that wasn't enough symbolism. Who was actually obsessed with becoming a god? Sephiroth.
...
Let's revisit Wagner's prologue. In the future, Odin is destined to set Valhalla ablaze, destroying gods in the process. That was part of the Norns rope of Destiny. Odin doesn't like that. Rope is suddenly broken, destroying fate itself. Sound familiar? What if we replace some nouns?
[ Odin = Sephiroth. Valhalla/Asgard = The Planet/Promised Land. Fake Odin = Shinra ]
In the OG, Sephiroth does indeed set fire to the planet, becoming as a god. In the remake, he seems to destroy fate itself. The future (as we know it) unknown.
Odin enlists the help of Mimir, a decapitated head as his guide and source of knowledge. Sephiroth also has an affinity for walking around seeking counsel with JENOVA's head. Mimir has insight to Odin's fate during Ragnarok. It seems, in the remake, JENOVA/Sephiroth has insight to his fate as well. HMMM...
In regard to Valhalla: those who have been slain are "chosen" by Odin return to Valhalla, a great and majestic hall in Asgard. One could draw the parallel that "those who are chosen by the planet" (Sephiroth's theme) will return to it. Sephiroth wants to become one with the planet right? He believes he has been chosen.
Who else wants access to the Planet/Promised Land? Shinra/Midgar, or by Norse myth, Midgard!
I wonder about the Whispers floating around Rufus and his connection them. (Fate/Ragnarok) Hmm..
---
Now we need to talk about Valkyries. The Valkyries were guides who led the deceased unto this Promised Land, or Valhalla.
Shinra enlists a Valkyrie (remake boss in Chapter 15) to "guide" the party to the planet, so to speak. But it's artificial. An example of them acting as god/Fake Odin.
It could be that the Cetra/Aerith, in a sense, are the true valkyries of FF7. Their connection with the planet/Promised Land (along with Shinra's belief that she and Ifalna could lead them there) seem to imply that there is a greater power to them than we already know.
Is it possible that Holy is an ultimate Valkyrie tool to guide the people of the planet to Valhalla safely during Ragnarok? That would imply the "bad ending" of the OG, but is it bad? Remains to be seen.
[Do you recall Aerith's behaviour in OG/Advent Children? She seemed to be a "guide" to Cloud as he lay adrift in the lifestream. But he wasn't yet chosen to cross over to Valhalla. In Advent Children, Loz, Yazoo, Kadaj (the embodiment of Rudrum, Viridi, and Croceo?) were chosen to cross through. Aerith was confused by their call for "mother" but she guided them nonetheless.]
So many questions!
Fun Fact: "The Valkyries" appears in part 2 of Wagner's same opera series titled Die Walküre. There isn't much of a connection or parallel to be drawn other than perhaps an ill-fated love. (Aerith + Zack?)
---
Moving on back to the opera, I had mentioned that there was a dwarven race called "Nibelung" from Nibelheim. How could this possibly tie into FF7?
Depending on translation and what source you look at, Nibelheim can be interpreted as the Norse Niflheim (Home of Mist; there is a double-meaning here as it relates to Cloud), however, to further hit home the connection to the opera, it becomes clear that Nibelheim also refers to the Germanic opera.
The first part of the opera Das Rheingold, takes inspiration from 12th/13th-century poems that describe Odin stealing gold from the Nibelung (dwarves) to redeem a debt owed to another dwarf. This dwarf kills his brother, turns himself into a dragon to guard the gold in the mountains.
Where do we find a dragon in Nibelheim? Mt. Nibel! Sephiroth (Odin) helps slay him during the flashback.
In the final scene of Das Rheingold, we see Odin lead Loge across a great bridge leading into a castle that he calls Valhalla. On one side of Mt. Nibel in the game, we see a bridge leading to a "castle". Mako reactoPromised Land? (Valhalla) This is where part 1 of the opera ends, and the beginning of the bigger narrative begins. Almost mirroring FF7 in away. Nibelheim is where the story really begins.
Also worth noting that the Odin summon materia is found in a treasure cache in Shinra Mansion, further grounding it in its Norse roots. Of all places, they put him here in Nibelheim. Huh..
And about that Norse naming of Niflheim. Often associated with Hel, it is understood as a realm of ice and mist, with the frozen/timeless rivers of Elivagar and the abundant wellspring of Hvergelmir, from which come all the rivers. Now what does that sound like? You guessed it. The Lifestream. "Timeless and abundant spring" as Bugenhagen put it.
Nibelheim (no matter how you translate it) has a strong double-meaning in its naming for so many reasons. Whether referring to the opera or the Norse myth, it's narratively sound.
It should be mentioned that considering how crucial Nibelheim is to the plot of FF7, there is so much stuff here that acts as a narrative anchor to Cloud, Zack, Sephiroth, Vincent, Hojo, Shinra, Promised Land, etc. it would be dubious to suggest the developers didn't come up with these mythology ties without purpose. (As convoluted as it is)
Fun fact: Kitase came up with the opera scene in FF6 (3), and contributed to main scenario of 7 so.. take that as you will.
Fun fact: In the OG, as Sector 7 plate is falling, the camera pans to President Shinra looking down from his office. He is listening to Joseph Haydn's Die Schöpfung (The Creation), an oratorio celebrating the creation of the world as depicted in the Book of Genesis. There's so much story-relevant info there that's almost self-explanatory.
---

And with that, concludes my foray into madness. Next is the descent. There is plenty more observations to be made out there, but part of the fun was the discovery. I encourage others to do the same. It shows how much thought and effort went behind this game in terms of writing and planning; not only that, but the outside sources that clearly had a big influence on story.

2020.04.27 07:10 BlockWhisperer [Spoilers FF7 Remake & Compilation] Something I Think I Figured Out

TLDR: Genesis ended all human life after Dirge of Cerberus which is why the original timeline is considered a "bad ending", and Sephiroth wants the party's help to destroy him.
They've said repeatedly that the compilation of FF7 is no longer canon, but Remake has clearly shown that much of it still is. This theory makes some assumptions but ties things together, in my opinion, beautifully.
Edit: Nomura said the compilation is still canon to the original game, but none if it is canon to Remake... HAHAHAHA now we know what this means! It's all still relevant!
A few things that lead me to believe the compilation is still in:
-Posters for Banora White apple juice
-Mentions of type G and type S SOLDIERs
-The 3 whispers who merge into Whisper Bahamut are the three remnants from Advent Children (they have the exact same weapons and use the same moves). People think they are actually Tifa, Cloud and Barret but the weapons and fighting styles match Kadaj and friends
We also see that the original ending is considered bad, leading people to think that Advent Children and Dirge are not canon since mankind was not wiped out. I believe that the final scene in chronology, the secret ending of Dirge (Genesis awakening) heralds the end of mankind on Gaia, with him chosen by the planet to annihilate the human race to protect it.
In Crisis Core Genesis is cured of degradation by the goddess/planet, and then taken away by Weiss and Nero. They ask him to join their revolution and he declines to slumber beneath Midgar. Then he wakes up at the end of Dirge and sounds extremely sinister, saying there is much work to do.
Now let me remind you all that Bugenhagen is the one who said the planet will decide whether humans are good or bad and whether or not they should stay. It's left ambiguous. According to the Crisis Core Complete Guide (via the Final Fantasy Wiki), Genesis has returned to "protect the planet", and his final lines in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- (i.e. the finale of LOVELESS) explain his return, but in more of a riddle. It never made much sense--until the Remake implied the timeline was a bad ending. Here is that finale:
Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return (He awakens at the end of Dirge after Omega is beaten)
To become the dew that quenches the land (Genesis will purge the planet of man!)
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies (Protect the planet)
I offer thee this silent sacrifice (Thee = the planet Silent sacrifice = humanity)
The Crisis Core Complete Guide states the biggest mystery is what happened to the world after receiving the "Gift of the goddess". I believe the gift of the goddess is Genesis himself.
I think Genesis will be in part 2 or 3 of Remake. It is likely that Sephiroth will manipulate the party to defeat him, perhaps being unable to do so himself for some reason. Genesis may even end up being a post-game boss like the WEAPONs.

2020.04.24 13:43 ggmcc13 [Spoilers] Do you think it is time to start pushing for a FF7 remaster?

We finally got our Remake after so many years of asking and waiting. However, the fact that FF7 remake seems to be more of a FF7 part 2 or a reimagining of the original appears to have divided the fanbase. I will still buy and play all of FF7R but I did not care for the changes at the end. However, I can feel happy for those that love it or are excited about the new possibilities of what is to come.

But for those who wanted the same core story with just a few changes to keep it fresh, what now? This is what we get and there is not changing the minds of the creators in my opinion. Keep in mind I write all of this assuming the future of FF7R is not at all similar to OG FF7, because if part 2 is 90% similar to OG as part 1 was, then maybe this is not needed at all.

So many people say, if you want the original, just go play the original. Well, sadly we have all now witnessed how awesome it is to see these characters voice acted and showing so much more emotions. Also we've seen how awesome some expansion to the story can be, like Jessie's new srory bit and Aerith going to the bar and warning people of the plate falling. So I hope you can understand why we want more that just the original in all it's 1997 mute polygonal glory.

So, how about we all do the same again and start asking for a Remaster as soon as it is confirmed that this is far from the same story as OG FF7. I cannot think of a FF7 fan that would say no to a remaster of the original game. And before you say it is impossible as it would be too much for SE, just hear me out.

In my opinion now that remake is out, we no longer need the eye candy of seeing the game in this HD quality graphic detail. A possible remaster could be in the same fixed camera and isometric perspective as the original with updated graphics (nowhere near FF7R graphics, except for curscenes) and voice acting at least for the main story bits and cutscenes. Like they have done with other FF games. For the battle system they could use the same as the OG or somehow implement the new battle system of FF7R.

As it is just a remaster, they could hire another studio (A good and competent studio) to do it and just take the role of supervisors. Maybe some of the new bits of FF7R that don't change the core story, could make it in a remaster. Hell, some of the cutscenes for the Midgar section of the game can be lifted directly from FF7R.

I think it also makes sense from a business point of view, so many people now will be showing interest for these characters and when they find out FF7R is not what happens in the original, they may want to go back to it, but let's face it, it has not aged well.

They already have the voice actors, in my opinion they are perfect for the most part. So I think it would not be a crazy amount of work and if they see there is a market for it, who knows.

It may just be wishful thinking, but other FF games have had this remaster treatment, some even being worked from the ground up.

TL;DR:
If some people just want the original story in a nicer package retold for a new generation, a la RE2R. And some people want Genesis and Sephiroth to team up against Cloud and Zack and king Mickey. My question is, why can't we have both?

What is your opinion? Will this ever be done or is it not necessary at all? Is now a good time to start working on it or would it be better to save it for the distant future?

2020.04.24 04:11 _xMelody Connection with Loveless?

I've been wondering, if maybe the FF7 is the story the loveless poem is actually all about and not Crisis Core, with a possible connection to the Remake, though it might be a bit far fetched.
Some hint of the importance might already be, that you meet Aerith right at the beginning of the game, in loveless street. Too lazy to write everything out, but I'll share my notes:

Prequel:
War of the beasts: Summons vs Jenova, as referenced in the Simulator video and Shiva desc.
us: manking
Goddess descents: wait for it...

Act 1:
Gift: promised land
seeking sky: Shinra searching for Ancients
ripples form: start of story
wandering soul: Aerith, thinking referencing Maiden who travels the planet

Act 2:
Hero: Cloud, Aerith actually says "My hero" to him in the remake
Goddess: Aerith
no hate, only joy: Aerith not blaming Cloud for death- just cherishing memories
shattered soul: probably also Cloud
Pride lost: reveal Cloud isn't a soldier

Act 3:
Cloud in lifestream
then returning and still mostly mourning and self-blame
Cloud's will to fight on for a better future despite no promises, making a good ending possible

Act 4:
no dreams/honor: Cloud's true story
arrow has left: learning of holy having been cast
trying to find and kill Sephiroth
Sacrifice at world's end: willing to die for the planet, by fighting Sephiroth to enable holy
wind sailing: time passing to Advent Children

Act 5: (probably imperfect, bc Genesis wrote this)
barren of promises: rebuilding (also needing new power supply) and Geostigma leading to uncertainty
dew + spare: healing rain getting rid of Geostigma and possibly "healing" the planet
sacrifice: reveal Aerith chose her fate willingly
return: going back to the prologue as the Goddess

I guess Aerith being the goddess might be the biggest point of contention, but with the healing rain, and all the weird powers she is showing in the remake, I could see this being atleast hinted at. Also her returning to the Prequel time would be the one thing preventing a time loop, which would be the logical result if only the main story points from the original are reenected.

After all someone killing Jenova way back when would stop Sephiroth from being created and would hurt him where it hurts most, by getting rid of all of Jenova's cells. Also Sephiroth plots ahead, but is not really seen looking back too much, after he was created by Hojo's experiments, which might justify this as a blind spot for him.

Additionally the war between the Cetra and Jenova is one of the coolest things left unexplored, would give the game an even stronger boss than Sephiroth and also would allow the Remake to follow pretty much all of the events, that happened in the original games.

2020.04.22 17:26 Ijnemur The Current Continuity

I would like to preface all of this with a huge Spoiler Warning, not just for FF7R but the entirety of the Compilation, read with care.
I think after the bombshell of the FF7R’s ending, a lot of people are confused about what is happening with the timeline, and rightfully so. Not only that but there is probably some confusion with Sephiroth and how he knows this much.
Well the simple answer is, there is now 3 timelines. Which sound confusing, but hear me out.
The 1st Timeline is the one where the Remake takes place. Where Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge are still alive and Avalanche fought Sephiroth early and defeated the Arbiters of Fate.
The 2nd Timeline is where the original game takes place and leads up to Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. This needs to be addressed that this is in fact a separate timeline, and that these events did in fact transpire. It wasn’t reset, nor is FF7R trying to retell that story. They are now factually different stories and continuities.
The 3rd Timeline is where Zack is somehow still alive after the events of Crisis Core. This again should be stressed that this is also a different timeline and Is not taking place in FF7R’s timeline. This is shown by the different Stampy and the ending cutscene deliberately showing Aerith and Cloud walk past Zack as he carries Cloud signifying this was a separate event. Additionally Zack living in the current timeline would make no sense, since the actions of FF7R rely on Zack dying similar to the original.
Now I think we need to address the two biggest Elephants in the room. Sephiroth and Zack.
I’m going to start off with a really strong statement, and say the Sephiroth we see in FF7R is in fact the Sephiroth from the Original Timeline, and he somehow found a way to overstep the boundaries of time.
This could also imply that FF7R has two different Sephiroth’s now, and not just multiple clones.
On a side note on the topic of clones, the original timeline only had Sephiroth Clones numbered as high as 12, with Cloud and Zack being unmarked because they were failures. However Marco has a number as high as 49, implying a significant increase in clones which could possibly be involved with the Original Sephiroth tampering with FF7R’s timeline too insure more clones are made by Hojo. Also, whilst it might just be an Easter Egg or coincidence, the number on Marco “49” was the same number on the training room door where Genesis, Angeal, and Sephiroth were fighting which would subsequently lead to Genesis degrading because of the slight injury he received during the bout, and is probably the key moment that lead to the major fracture between the 3 friends.
Maybe implying Genesis might have a presence in FF7R’s Timeline? The last time we really saw him was right after he recovered from his slumber in the Secret Ending to Dirge Of Cerberus where he said that he had much work to do.
Moving on from that and back to Sephiroth
We also know that Sephiroth is completely unaffected by the Arbiters as Aerith said, meaning he is able to somehow ignore Destiny.
An alternative way of thinking could be that Jenova’s influence is somehow able to transcend time. Meaning the Sephiroth from the original is able to inform Sephiroth’s of different timelines. It would mean that Jenova fits the description of something akin to an Old God from the Lovecraftian Mythos if her offspring are able to work outside of the flow of time.
Although I lean more towards there being multiple Sephiroth’s since the entire idea of Jenova being this Multidimensional Eldritch Goddess is a very alien theme to the story of FF7 which only previously dipped its toes in cosmic horror, but never diving too far into the abyss.
Now onto Zack. And how is still alive?
I think the best answer is, Sephiroth intervened for some unknown reason and killed the last platoon of Military Grunts before they could reach Zack and kill him which is what takes place in Crisis Core.
Why would he save him? Time will tell. But my guess is that Sephiroth wants both of them alive because they’re both failed Sephiroth Clones that were still able to become effective “Soldiers”.
Now I know some might have the impression that Cloud somehow intervened and saved Zack, however it makes no sense since Cloud doesn’t seem to know too much about it, and you’d think he’d at least indulge his friends if he had some weird grand master plan to stop Sephiroth instead of just saying “We need to stop Sephiroth.”
That’s pretty much it for crackpot theory/explanation. If there is something you think I missed, or you disagree with my explanation. I’m open to having a dialogue and discussion.
